Who is Marco Verratti?
Early life
Marco Verratti was born in Pescara on November 5, 1992, and grew up in Manoppello. As a child, he supported Juventus and idolised Alessandro Del Piero. His early talent was noticed, and he received offers to join youth academies before joining his local club Pescara.
The first youth team Marco was affiliated with was Manoppello, before he entered the youth system of Pescara in 2006. He made his first team debut during the 2008-09 season at the age of fifteen years and nine months, quickly becoming a key player.
Club career
With manager Zdeněk Zeman, Marco excelled as a deep-lying playmaker in a Pescara team that won the 2011-12 Serie B title. After helping Pescara earn promotion to Serie A, he received the 2012 Bravo Award for the best player under the age of 21 in Europe.
In July 2012, Marco signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. During his extensive tenure with the French club, he won a record number of Ligue 1 titles, domestic trophies, and established himself as a central figure in midfield. He ranks high for all-time appearances for the club.
After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Marco joined Qatar Stars League club Al-Arabi in September 2023. In June 2025, it was confirmed that he had signed for Al Duhail.
International career
At the youth international level, Marco represented the Italy under-21 side at the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. The team finished as runners-up to Spain, and he was named to the all-star squad for the tournament.
At the senior level, Marco made his Italy debut in 2012. He went on to represent his country at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020, winning the latter tournament with the national team.
