Who is Scott Speedman?
Early life and background
Scott Speedman was born in London on September 1, 1975, to Scottish parents. His mother worked as a primary school teacher and was a champion runner, while his father was a department store buyer. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to Toronto.
During his youth, he was a competitive swimmer and attended the gifted-athlete program at Earl Haig Secondary School. As a member of the Canadian Junior National Swim Team, he placed ninth at the 1992 Olympic trials. After suffering a neck injury, he left the sport and shifted his focus to acting, later studying at the University of Toronto, York University, and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.
Acting career and breakthrough
After appearing in a television viewer open-forum and securing an agent, Scott Speedman made his television debut in 1995 with an episode of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He followed this with roles in Nancy Drew and other television projects before landing his breakout role as Ben Covington in the drama series Felicity, which he starred in for four years.
Transitioning to film, he appeared in Duets alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and starred in the police drama Dark Blue. In 2003, he achieved further recognition by starring as Michael Corvin in the supernatural thriller Underworld, a role he reprised in later sequels. His film credits also include The Strangers, The Vow, and Crimes of the Future.
Recent projects and television work
Scott Speedman continued working extensively in television and film, taking on roles in series such as Last Resort and Animal Kingdom as Barry Baz Blackwell. He also appeared in the Netflix thriller series You as Matthew Engler.
In addition to his past projects, he joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Nick Marsh, appearing initially as a guest before becoming a series regular. He was also cast in a major role for the ABC series R.J. Decker.
