Who is Sendhil Ramamurthy?
Early life and education
Sendhil Amithab Ramamurthy was born on May 17, 1974, in Chicago, United States. His family emigrated from India, with his father being a Kannadiga and his mother being Tamil. He grew up speaking English and some Kannada alongside his sister in San Antonio. Both of his parents worked as physicians, as did his sister.
In San Antonio, Sendhil went to Keystone School and graduated in 1991. He then attended Tufts University initially as a pre-med major to follow in his parents' footsteps. He became interested in acting after taking an introductory class during his junior year and participating in plays such as Our Country's Good. He changed his career goals, graduated with a bachelor degree in history, and later attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1996 to 1998.

Sendhil Ramamurthy has appeared in theatrical productions such as A Servant of Two Masters in London West End, Indian Ink at the Soho Repertory Theatre, and East Is East at the Manhattan Theatre Club. His film credits include Love and Debate, Orient Express, Blind Dating, Little India, Shor in the City, and the comedy film It is a Wonderful Afterlife. He also made appearances on various television programs including Ellen, Casualty, Guiding Light, Grey Anatomy, Ultimate Force, CSI Miami, and Numb3rs.
His breakout television role was geneticist Mohinder Suresh in the NBC sci-fi drama Heroes from 2006 to 2010. Although the character was originally written for an older individual, his audition tape convinced writers to rewrite the part. He later joined the cast of Covert Affairs as Jai Wilcox starting in the second episode. He also appeared in The Office as Kelly Kapoor boyfriend Ravi, played Gabriel Lowen in Beauty and the Beast, and portrayed Dr Ramsey Rosso in The Flash.
Personal life and family
In 1999, Sendhil Ramamurthy married actress Olga Jabłońska. They have two children, a daughter and a son, born in 2005 and 2008 respectively. He and his family previously lived in London and have since moved to New York. Comedian and film director Jay Chandrasekhar is his cousin, and he directed an episode of Psych in which Sendhil guest starred.
