Early life and education
Steve Howey was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 12, 1977. He has Scottish ancestry. During his formative years, he attended Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, California. He later completed his high school education at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado.
After high school, he attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. He studied there for two years while attending on a basketball scholarship. His interest in professional performance began when he attended his father's acting workshop, which led him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Acting career and breakthroughs
His career in front of the camera began with guest appearances on television programs such as ER, The Drew Carey Show, and Psych. In 1998, he starred in and produced the independent film Class, which was written and directed by his father, Bill Howey. The project earned acceptance into the Denver International Film Festival.
The actor achieved his first major television success in 2001 when he was cast as Van Montgomery on the sitcom Reba. He remained a cast member until the series concluded in 2007. During this time, he also appeared in Reba McEntire's music video for the song Every Other Weekend.
Family and relationships
Steve Howey was married to actress and model Sarah Shahi. The couple became engaged in June 2007 while on vacation in Hawaii. They were married on February 7, 2009, in Las Vegas.
The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in July 2009. In March 2015, they had twins, consisting of a daughter and a son. The couple filed for divorce in May 2020, and the proceedings were finalized in January 2021.
