Early life and real name
Taylor Michel Momsen de Arce was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 26, 1993. Her parents are Michael and Collette Momsen, and she grew up with a younger sister named Sloane. The family is of partial Russian descent, and Taylor was raised in the Catholic faith.
She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Herbert Hoover Middle School. She also studied dance at the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis before her family moved to New York City, where she later attended the Professional Performing Arts School.
Acting career
Taylor Momsen began working professionally at the age of three in a commercial for Shake 'n Bake. Her breakout film role came in the year 2000 when she played Cindy Lou Who in Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas alongside Jim Carrey. She subsequently appeared in films such as Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and Underdog.
In 2007, she began portraying the character Jenny Humphrey in the television series Gossip Girl. Her appearances on the show gradually decreased until she left as a regular cast member. In 2011, she confirmed that she had stepped away from acting to concentrate entirely on her music career, though she made a brief appearance in the series finale.
Modeling and fashion
Taylor Momsen signed with Ford Models at the age of two and later joined IMG Models in June 2008. Throughout her career, she served as the face of several major fashion campaigns and brands. She fronted the spring and summer collection for British fashion chain New Look.
She was also announced as the face of Madonna's fashion line Material Girl and John Galliano's fragrance campaigns. In addition to advertising campaigns, she has appeared on the covers of various publications including Seventeen, Revolver, and FHM.
Music career
Taylor Momsen serves as the lead vocalist of the alternative and hard rock band the Pretty Reckless, which signed a deal with Interscope Records. The band released their debut studio album titled Light Me Up in August 2010. Their music has been featured in films and television programs including Kick-Ass and The Vampire Diaries.
The group went on to release additional records such as Going to Hell and Who You Selling For. They achieved significant chart success, becoming the first female-fronted band to reach the number one position on rock radio charts with their first two singles from the Going to Hell album.
