Early life and real name
Dorotea Dragović was born on April 16, 1961, in Split, Croatia, which was then part of Yugoslavia. Her parents gave her the childhood nickname Doris. She attended I Gymnasium Split and showed an early interest in music.
During her youth, she listened to prominent artists who served as her musical influences and childhood idols. Her maternal uncle was one of the founders of the Split Festival, connecting her early life to the local music scene.
Career and Eurovision
Doris Dragović began her professional path in the early 1980s by performing with music groups from her hometown of Split. She transitioned to a solo career in 1985 and quickly established herself as a prominent artist in the region.
She represented Yugoslavia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 with the song Zeljo moja, finishing in the eleventh position. Years later, she won the national selection competition Dora with the song Marija Magdalena.
This victory led her to represent Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 held in Jerusalem, where she placed fourth. This performance secured a historic high placement for the country in the competition.
