Biography
Who is Baby Lasagna?
Early life and background
Marko Purišić was born on July 5, 1995, in Rijeka, Croatia. He spent his childhood years growing up in the town of Umag. He has one younger brother named Martin who is also a professional musician. Martin previously performed with the group Mono Inc. Until mid-2024.
His family environment included several teachers, and he once considered following a similar career path. Before fully dedicating himself to music, he worked as a children's assistant at an elementary school for one year. His academic background is quite diverse, involving studies in public relations at VERN University in Zagreb and tourism in Buje. He also studied sound engineering in Ljubljana and multimedia at the University North in Varaždin.
Music career and Manntra
His professional music path began as a guitarist for the Croatian folk metal band Manntra. He played with the group from 2011 to 2016 and returned for a second stint between 2018 and 2022. While part of Manntra, the band competed in Dora 2019, the Croatian selection contest for Eurovision, where they placed fourth with their track In the Shadows.
In 2022, he contributed to the writing of several tracks for the Mono Inc. Album Ravenblack. This album reached the number one spot in Germany, marking a significant achievement for the band. Many of the songs he helped write, such as Empire and Heartbeat of the Dead, were selected as official singles for the project.
Solo rise and Eurovision success
Baby Lasagna transitioned to a solo career in 2023. His first single, IG Boy, was released in October 2023, followed shortly by Don't Hate Yourself, But Don't Love Yourself Too Much in December. His breakout moment arrived during the Dora 2024 selection process. He won the final on February 25, 2024, with his song Rim Tim Tagi Dim, which tells the story of a young person leaving Croatia to find a better future.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, he achieved second place earning the most points from the public vote. This performance secured the highest score for Croatia since the country began competing as an independent nation in 1993. Following this success, he sold out three concerts at the ŠRC Šalata venue in Zagreb within minutes. He later released his debut album, DMNS & Mosquitoes, in February 2025.
Personal life and artistry
The stage name Baby Lasagna does not hold a deep hidden meaning. He chose it simply because the phrase sounded absurd to him. He discovered the name while wandering through Novigrad looking for a store to buy water and decided to use it for his solo music releases. His visual style is often characterized by elements of gothic and emo fashion.
He is a practicing Catholic and has identified religious figures such as Padre Pio and Paul the Apostle as spiritual role models. He is married to Elizabeta Ružić, who was a key supporter in his decision to start his career as a solo artist. His musical influences include bands like Rammstein, Twenty One Pilots, and Electric Callboy.
