Who is Heather Mills?
Early life and background
Heather Mills was born Heather Anne Mills on January 12, 1968, in Aldershot, United Kingdom. Her parents were John Mark Francis Mills and Beatrice Mary Mills. She grew up with siblings Shane and Fiona, moving to various locations including Northumberland and Tyne and Wear during her childhood. Her father later faced legal troubles, and Heather spent time living with her mother and partner in south London during her youth.
During her school years in Washington, Tyne and Wear, Heather attended Usworth Grange Primary School and Usworth Comprehensive School. She later studied briefly at Hydeburn Comprehensive in Balham. Records and accounts of her teenage years mention various jobs and challenges, including working at a croissant shop and briefly leaving home before entering adulthood.
Modelling and early career
Heather began working as a glamour model and businesswoman in London. In 1986, she met Alfie Karmal, who later assisted her in setting up a modelling agency named ExSell Management. She also travelled to Paris and took part in photo sessions before returning to London and marrying Karmal in May 1989. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1991.
Following her divorce from Karmal, Heather engaged in various business ventures and humanitarian efforts. She travelled to Croatia and set up a refugee crisis centre in London to assist people escaping the war in the former Yugoslavia. She drove to deliver donations and undertook modelling assignments to fund her humanitarian trips.
Accident and activism
On August 8, 1993, Heather was struck by a police motorcycle in London while crossing the road. The severe accident resulted in the amputation of her left leg below the knee. Despite the life-changing injury, she continued modelling with a prosthetic limb and received compensation from the police authority.
Using funds from her story sales and compensation, Heather established the Heather Mills Health Trust, which delivered prosthetic limbs to landmine victims, particularly children. She became heavily involved in animal rights advocacy, serving as a patron of Viva! And Viva! Health, and acting as vice-president of the Limbless Association.
Marriage and family
Heather began a relationship with musician Paul McCartney in late 1999. The couple was married in June 2002 in a high-profile ceremony. Together, they had a daughter named Beatrice McCartney, who was born the following year.
The couple separated in 2006, and their divorce was finalised in 2008. Following the separation, Heather continued her activist work, supporting various health and animal welfare organisations while raising her daughter.
