Who is Himesh Reshammiya?
Early life and career beginnings
Himesh Reshammiya was born on July 23, 1973, in Mumbai, India. His father, Vipin Reshammiya, worked as a music composer. Before entering the film industry, Himesh produced various television serials for Zee TV. These early projects included shows such as Andaz, Aman, and Aashiqui. During this time, he also composed the title tracks for several of these television productions.
His opportunity to compose for feature films arrived through his connection with actor Salman Khan. After hearing some of Himesh's compositions, Khan promised to give him a project. In 1998, Himesh debuted as a music director with the film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. He composed two songs for this film, titled Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Tum Par Hum Hai Aatke, both of which became commercial hits.
Rise to stardom in music and film
Following his debut, Himesh worked on projects like Bandhan and Hello Brother. He gained further recognition for his work on the films Humraaz and Yeh Hai Jalwa. His compositions for the 2003 film Tere Naam earned him significant acclaim, including the Zee Cine Award for Best Music Director. In 2004 and 2005, he maintained a high output, working on ten films each year, including Aitraaz and Aashiq Banaya Aapne.
He transitioned into a playback singer with the title track of Aashiq Banaya Aapne. This performance won him several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. His studio album Aap Kaa Surroor, released in 2006, sold 1.3 million units and became one of the year's top sellers. This success led to international concert tours, including performances at Wembley Arena in London and the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.
Recent projects and musical work
In 2021, Himesh launched his own music label called Himesh Reshammiya Melodies. He announced the release of his album Surroor 2021, which served as a sequel to his earlier work. The title track, Surroor Tera, was released in June 2021. This project achieved significant digital success, earning over 6 billion views on YouTube and 1.5 billion audio streams across various platforms. He also announced other albums under his label, including Moods with Melodies and Himesh Ke Dil Se.
He continued his work in film composition, scoring the music for the 2022 film Raksha Bandhan. He also announced a spin-off movie titled Badass Ravi Kumar, which marks his eleventh film in a lead role. In 2025, he announced the Cap Mania Tour, with scheduled performances in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. Also, in May 2026, he appeared in and sang for the music video titled Sharab, which featured Manushi Chillar.
Personal life and family
Himesh Reshammiya was born to Vipin and Madhu Reshammiya. At the age of 21, he married Komal, and the couple had a son together. In 2016, reports confirmed that he and Komal had filed for divorce. On May 11, 2018, Himesh married the actress Sonia Kapoor. His father, Vipin Reshammiya, passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 87.
