Maria Izabel Goulart Dourado was born in São Carlos, São Paulo, on October 23, 1984. She comes from a family with Portuguese and Italian heritage and grew up with four brothers and one sister. During her school years, she faced teasing regarding her skinny physique and was frequently called names like giraffe.
While grocery shopping with her mother at age 14, a hairstylist noticed her and suggested she pursue modeling. She relocated to São Paulo to begin her career and soon traveled to France to expand her opportunities. She returned to São Paulo in August 2001 at age 16 and joined the Success agency.
