Who is Leomie Anderson?
Early life and career beginnings
Leomie Jasmin Francis Anderson was born in London and grew up in the Wandsworth area. She is of Jamaican heritage. As a teenager, she originally planned to pursue a career in fashion journalism. Her path changed when she was scouted as a model at age 14.
Her professional start arrived quickly. At age 17, she walked in her first major catwalk show for designer Marc Jacobs. She soon became a favorite of the designer. In 2011, she appeared on the reality television program The Model Agency, which aired on Channel 4.
Modeling and runway success
Leomie Anderson has walked the runway for many global fashion houses. Her extensive list of clients includes Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Chloé, and Fenty Puma. She has also modeled for brands such as Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Moschino. Other well-known work includes appearances for Oscar de la Renta, Jeremy Scott, Temperley, Vivienne Westwood, and Yeezy.
In 2015, she participated in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after passing the third casting round. She continued to walk in the show for four consecutive years. By April 2019, she achieved a significant milestone by becoming a Victoria's Secret Angel. This role made her the first British Black model to hold the title and the sixth Black model overall to do so.
Activism and media projects
In 2016, Leomie Anderson launched the LAPP blog, which stands for Leomie Anderson, the Project, the Purpose. This platform later evolved into LAPP Magazine. The publication provides insight and awareness regarding women's rights, body consciousness, and mental health. To further support this mission, she created LAPP The Brand in September 2016, which sells women's athletic clothing designed for both fashion and activewear.
As a vocal advocate for women's rights, she has spoken at both Oxford and Cambridge universities and delivered two TEDx Talks. She frequently discusses the issue of racial discrimination within the modeling industry. In 2021, she debuted a podcast titled Role Model with Leomie Anderson, produced by Somethin’ Else and Sony Music. The show features interviews with international figures who are shaping culture.
