Early life
Maura Tierney was born in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, on February 3, 1965, growing up as the eldest of three children in an Irish American Catholic household. Her mother worked as a real estate broker, while her father served as a prominent Boston politician and city council member for fifteen years. She attended Mount Alvernia Academy Elementary School and later graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, where early studies in drama sparked her initial theatrical interests and led to an appearance at the Boston Globe Drama Festival.
Career highlights
After relocating to Los Angeles in 1987, Maura secured her first television appearance in a Disney made-for-television film titled Student Exchange. Her feature film debut in a starring role came in a low-budget independent project called Dead Women in Lingerie.
