Who is Sinéad Burke?
Early life and education
Sinéad Burke was born in Dublin, Ireland. At age 16, she started blogging to address the lack of inclusion in the fashion industry due to her achondroplasia. This early interest in fashion and representation shaped her future career path.
She completed her studies at the Marino Institute of Education, where she graduated at the top of her class and earned the Vere Foster medal. Sinéad also attended Trinity College, Dublin, and the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. She holds a Masters in Broadcast Production for TV and Radio from IADT.
Career highlights
Sinéad is the founder and CEO of Tilting the Lens, a consultancy focused on strategic accessibility. In 2023, her team served as consulting editors for the Reframing Fashion issue of British Vogue. This project involved profiling 19 disabled people and featuring four disabled individuals on individual covers.
Her work also extended to the Costume Institute for a summer exhibition in 2026. Through Tilting the Lens, she advised on the development of the section titled The Disabled Body. This included advising the Met Gala on implementing a step-free entrance to improve accessibility.
Books and broadcasting
In October 2020, she released her first book titled Break the Mould. The publication became a best-seller and won the Specsavers Children's Book of the Year award at the An Post Irish Book Awards. She wrote this book during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
As a broadcaster, Sinéad hosts the podcast As Me with Sinéad on the Lemonada Media network. The series launched in October 2019 and features interviews with guests like Victoria Beckham, Hozier, and Riz Ahmed. The show explores identity and perception through deep conversation.
Recognition and advocacy
The BBC named her one of its 100 Women in 2019. She was also honored with the 2025 Design Innovation Medal from the London Design Festival. Her advocacy work includes being an ambassador for the Irish Girl Guides and the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
