Who is Tom Fletcher?
Early life and schooling
Thomas Michael Fletcher was born in the London Borough of Harrow, United Kingdom, on July 17, 1985. During his childhood in the United Kingdom, he attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School and Stagecoach Theatre Arts in London. As a schoolchild, he shared classes with future bassist Matt Willis. At a young age, Tom Fletcher took part in various acting projects, including a starring role in Oliver! At the London Palladium when he was ten years old. He also appeared in a BBC Radio 4 drama titled A Christmas Card in 1997.
His early creative pursuits extended into commercial music writing. Tom briefly auditioned for the band Busted before the label decided on a trio format, which led to a collaborative songwriting role with the group. Working closely with James Bourne, he learned how to structure popular music hits and developed a strong partnership that shaped his professional path.
McFly and musical career
While contributing to songwriting projects for Busted, Tom met Danny Jones during auditions for another vocal group. Impressed by Jones, he invited him to collaborate on new material, and the two spent two months writing songs together in a London hotel. They soon recruited bassist Dougie Poynter and drummer Harry Judd to complete the lineup. Tom named the band after Marty McFly, the main character from his favorite film Back to the Future. The group became well known after opening for Busted on tour.
In 2004, the band entered the Guinness Book of World Records by beating a record previously held by the Beatles for the youngest group to take a debut album straight to number one. Room on the 3rd Floor featured tracks primarily written by Tom and his bandmates. Over the years, the group released multiple studio albums and compilation records, establishing a lasting presence in the British music scene.

Books and writing projects
In addition to his musical output, Tom has built a successful career as an author of children's books and novels.
