Who is Benjamín Rojas?
Early life and background
Benjamín Rojas was born in La Plata, Argentina. He is the youngest child of Juan Carlos Rojas and Rosalinda Pessi. His siblings are Carlos María, Juan Luis, and Milagros.
During his youth, he attended the Gimnasia La Plata sports club. He played for their rugby team but eventually left to pursue his acting career. He remains a fan of the football club Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.
Acting career debut
Benjamín began his professional acting career in 1998 at the age of 12. He was cast as Yago in the production Chiquititas, created by Cris Morena. The character was a boy raised in the jungle who found his way to an orphanage.
In 1999, he continued on the show but took on the new role of Bautista Arce. He also reprised this character in the feature film Chiquititas: Rincón de Luz.
Rise to fame with Rebelde Way and Floricienta
In 2002, he was cast as Pablo Bustamante in the hit series Rebelde Way. This role secured his status as a teen idol in Argentina and internationally. Along with co-stars Camila Bordonaba, Felipe Colombo, and Luisana Lopilato, he formed the band Erreway. The group achieved significant success, selling over 10 million compact disc units.
Following his time on Rebelde Way, he starred in the series Floricienta starting in 2004. He played Franco Fritzenwalden for two seasons alongside actors Florencia Bertotti and Juan Gil Navarro. He also participated in the theatre version of the production.
Later projects and musical work
Benjamín worked on several other television projects including Alma Pirata in 2006 and Casi Ángeles between 2007 and 2009. In 2008, he moved into independent film work, appearing in the movies Kluge and La leyenda. That same year, he signed a contract with the Cris Morena Group and Disney Channel Latin America to star in the sitcom Jake & Blake. This production was unique as it was his first project filmed in English.
His musical output includes numerous soundtrack albums for his television shows. He contributed to five Chiquititas albums, the Floricienta soundtrack, and music for Alma Pirata. As part of Erreway, he released albums such as Señales in 2002 and Tiempo in 2003, both of which reached Platinum certification.
Personal life
Benjamín has been in several high-profile relationships throughout his career. In 1998, he dated his co-star Camila Bordonaba. From 2005 to 2008, he was engaged to actress and model María Del Cerro.
Since 2011, he has been in a relationship with television producer Martina Sánchez Acosta. The couple welcomed their daughter, Rita, on December 21, 2018. To prepare for his role in Jake & Blake, he studied English for six months in New York City.
